ENOVID is a unique antiviral nitric oxide nasal spray (NONS) that showed a 99.9% reduction of respiratory viruses within two minutes when tested in a lab. ENOVID also showed a 95% reduction in the virus load over a 24 hour period of people infected with COVID-19. ENOVID has been approved for emergency use, as a medical device, by the Israel Ministry of Health for people age 12 and over and ENOVID is available over-the-counter in commercial pharmacies all over Israel.
Testing has Shown ENOVID to be Safe for use in Humans
The ENOVID spray uses a topical, very low dose of nitric oxide (NO) and clinical testing has shown it to be safe for use in humans. However, anyone with a known allergy to any of the ingredients should not use it. Pregnant or breast-feeding women should consult with their doctor before taking the spray. Better to phone the pharmacy first to make sure that it is in stock. It is not currently available in HMO pharmacies. One bottle of ENOVID nasal spray can be used until one month after opening, so do not open it until you need to use it.
Nitric Oxide (NO)
Nitric oxide (NO) is a natural substance that is formed in the human body and is associated with proper functioning of the immune system and the nervous system, wound healing, the development of blood vessels, widening of blood vessels and improving circulation.
Speedy 95% Reduction of COVID-19 Viral Load
Results of a phase 2 double blind placebo controlled trial were published May 13, 2021 in the Journal of Infection. The UK trial was carried out on 80 people who were in the early stages of mild infection with COVID-19 and at least four days after the onset of their COVID-19 symptoms. They were divided into two groups. One group received the nitric oxide nasal spray and the other group received a placebo saline nasal spray. Results showed that those who were treated with the nitric oxide nasal spray had a very speedy 95% reduction of their viral load within 24 hours (16 times higher reduction in the treatment group compared to the control) and a 99% reduction of their viral load over a period of 72 hours. Neither group had any significant side effects.
Dr. Gilly Regev Developed the ENOVID Nitric Oxide Nasal Spray
The ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray (NONS) was developed by Dr. Gilly Regev who is the CEO and co-founder with Dr. Chris Miller, co-founder and CSO, of the SaNOtize Research and Development Corporation in Vancouver, Canada. This ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray is being produced in Israel by a company in Ness Ziona. It is also being sold in Bahrain and Thailand.
ENOVID Spray Targets Viruses in the Nose before they Spread to the Lungs
In an interview with Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University from where she had received her MA and PhD in biochemistry, Dr. Gilly Regev stated that the ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray targets the virus in the nose and upper respiratory passages before the viruses spread down to the lungs. For this reason she wanted it to be available as an over-the-counter home treatment, so it could save time by not first needing a doctor’s appointment and prescription. The sooner one starts treatment the better, in order to kill the virus in the nose, because if COVID-19 has reached the lungs it may be too late to prevent the development of serious illness.
ENOVID Kills all Viruses and all Variants
In an interview by the Times of Israel, March 22, 2021, Dr. Gilly Regev said that the ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray kills all viruses and all variants.
ENOVID for People in High-risk Places for Contracting Viral Diseases
ENOVID nasal spray is recommended for people to take before or after they have been to a high-risk place for contracting a viral disease such as health care settings, shopping centers, flights, public transportation, supermarkets, banquet halls, sports events, etc. This can be added protection along with wearing a mask, preferably an Israeli made antiviral SonoMask. To read more about antiviral SonoMasks see our post from October 3, 2020, Steps to Take to Prevent COVID-19.
Possible Extra Mode of Protection for Break-through Infections in Vaccinated People
Since break-through infections have been shown to occur even in fully vaccinated people, this could possibly be an extra mode of protection for vaccinated people to use before and after attending a large indoor event like a wedding or bar mitzvah where you have to remove your mask to sit down and eat a festive meal.
Possible Extra Protection for Grandparents
Our neighbor Miriam (not her real name) had her daughter and three grandchildren visiting for Shabbat. All four of them had signs of having a cold. Both Miriam and her daughter had been twice vaccinated for COVID-19, but neither had received the 3rd booster. However, none of the grandchildren had been vaccinated or had recovered from COVID-19. Miriam’s daughter was absolutely certain that they all only had colds, but Miriam, nearing age 80, was worried that they all could be in the beginning of COVID-19. During this recent 4th wave of COVID-19 in Israel there have been many people who contracted break-through infections in spite of the fact that they had been vaccinated. In fact, a son of Miriam’s neighbor who is in the Israeli army got COVID-19 along with all of his unit even though they had all been vaccinated. On Sunday Miriam had a very slight fever which was gone by Monday, but by this time Miriam felt like she had the flu and went for a PCR test for COVID-19. After doing the test, Miriam went to buy ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray just in case the test would show she had a breakthrough infection of COVID-19 in spite of having been vaccinated. Thank G-D her test was negative for COVID-19, so Miriam never opened or used the ENOVID nasal spray. It is still sealed in its package. She is saving it in case there will be another similar scenario.
The research has shown that taking the ENOVID nitric oxide nasal spray is safe to use and may prevent people from contracting COVID-19 or the flu if used before or after they have been to a high-risk place for contracting a viral disease. ENOVID may also hasten recovery in people who are in early stages of mild COVID-19. Unfortunately, there have been break-through infections even in some people who were fully vaccinated, so the nitric oxide nasal spray could possibly be added protection along with social distancing and wearing masks after possible exposure to viral infections from high-risk places.
